Polestar to make European debut in Geneva

 - 23/02/2018

Although there has been a lot said and reported about Polestar over the last few months, the new electric performance arm of Volvo has yet to make its debut in Europe. That will shortly be rectified though, because Polestar will be one of the big attractions at the upcoming motor show in Geneva next month, where the company's first model, the Polestar 1, will finally be seen in public for the first time.

The Polestar 1 is an Electric Performance Hybrid GT that will deliver an output of some 600 horsepower and a massive 1,000 Nm of torque. This debut model also boasts a 150km electric-only range in Pure mode, which means it can rightfully claim to offer the longest electric-only driving range of any hybrid car in the world at the moment.

The Polestar 1 had its initial global reveal in Shanghai in October 2017, but the Geneva Motor Show will be the first chance for the public to see it in the flesh before production starts in mid-2019.

"Our stand in Geneva will be a powerful incarnation of what our brand embodies : uncompromised, pure and progressive design," said Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar's Chief Executive Officer.

The range and performance of the Polestar 1 are far from all that will get people talking about this exciting new model, and that's because it's not going to be sold in what we currently see as the normal way. The Polestar 1 will only be available on a pretty much all-encompassing monthly subscription basis, which will be an experiment closely watched by Polestar's rivals and the rest of the global motor industry.

Polestar's big European debut gets underway with a media event to be held on Tuesday, March 6, and after that the stand will be open to the public between March 8 and 18.
