After being parked for a long period, a few precautions should be taken before you take to the road again. Here is ViaMichelin’s advice so you can get back on the road safely.

- Make sure your vehicle insurance is up-to-date and that you have all the required vehicle documentation to hand (driving license, vehicle papers) for when you next get out on the road!

- Make sure that your car’s MOT is up-to-date and don’t hesitate to book a service if you feel it might be necessary;

- If your car was left parked outdoors, you will probably need to give the windscreen and windows a good wash before setting off!

- Make sure that your vehicle’s battery is fully charged;

- Check your tyre pressure;

- Check oil levels and other liquids: coolant, windscreen washer, brake fluid;

- Make sure there are no leaks;

- Test the foot brake, clutch and hand brake: make sure there is no abnormal resistance;

- After switching on the engine, let it idle for a few minutes. During this time, look out for warning lights and check the headlights and electronic circuits
